Trekking Centenary 2004

To celebrate one hundred years of trekking at MGS, in September 2004 a Centenary Reunion was held at school. Over a hundred current and former student and staff trekkers attended the exhibition and dinner, and the bonhomie which is such a part of trekking was evident throughout. The exhibition in the Memorial Hall and Display Area had historical and current items of trekking equipment and images of treks going back as far as the early 20th century. In his letter thanking those involved in the organisation of the Reunion, High Master Dr Ray stated “Those of you with internet access might like to know that we are introducing a Trek Archive section on the school website”. Sixteen years later, with no appropriate format for me to upload the archive material I have, I have decided to include it in this website.

To accompany the Reunion a Trekking Centenary Brochure was produced and printed, with a copy for each of those who attended. It included a review of trekking over the century, articles on various aspects of trekking, lists of Treks and a small selection of images. Principal contributors were Adrian Dobson, Allan Witton, Paul Shufflebottom and Roger Hand. In September 2015 the contributors collaborated to produce a digital version of the Brochure in order to make it more widely available than the original printed copy.
