The Route was in two separate parts. The first part (10 days) was based on the Alta Via 1 from Lago di Braies to Agordo, and passed through the massifs of Sennes Alp, Fanes Alp, Tofana, Nuvolau, Croda da Lago, Pelmo, Civetta and Moiazza. Much of this was the same route as the 1980 Trek, the first MGS Trek based on the Alte Via 1 pioneered by Chris Little and Gerry Leversha. This year’s route had some variation in the breakdown into days, and some different mountain campsites and excursions.
The second part (3 days) was along a short section of the Alta Via 2 from Lago di Fedaia beneath the Marmolada, along the Sas Ciapel ridge and through the Sella Group to Passo Gardena. There were valley camps at Rifugio Saré (above San Cassiano), Cortina, and Malga Ciapela, and we met the coach for supplies at Palafavera and Passo Pordoi. The summits climbed were: Croda del Becco (2810 m), la Varella (3055 m), Lagzuoi Piccolo (2778 m), Nuvolau (2575 m), Monte Coldai (2403 m) and Piz Boè (3152 m).
